50POSTCARDS FROM THE PAST — Dunn CountyThis observation tower at the top of Elk Mound was built in 1937 by the WPA. Problems with the steep road to reach the “castle” led to its clo- sure in 1984. Students from Elk Mound High School helped get the monument and grounds back in shape and with road repairs it was re- opened to the public in 1994.Photo by David TankThis description on the back of the card provided the distance to Menomonie rather than to the adjacent Village of Elk Mound.Published by E.C.
